In the Minneapolis/St. Paul communities, there was an overall lack
in quality infant care, backup care, and summer care options for
school-age children. The ABC implemented several programs to meet
these needs. As a result of center accreditation projects, centers
were better able to care for infants. The backup care registry and
mildly ill child care conference resulted in more access to care
when regular care arrangements fall through. The Close to Home Program
provided materials and developmental resources for informal care
providers (family members, neighbors). And a series of programs
targeted to school-age summer programs resulted in curriculum enhancement
and accreditation resulted in more available slots for this age
group.
